Mark your calendar! Rhythm Traders is organizing the first annual Oregon Big Beat which will
be held in Portland on Sunday, November 7th, 2010. It will be the largest gathering of drummers in Portland EVER.
The Big Beat will occur simultaneously in 15 cities across North America, with proceeds going to Mr. Holland's Opus
Foundation to bring musical instruments to our local schools!
Billed as the world's largest multi-city drum set event, last year's Big Beat drew 1202 drummers and about 3500 spectators in 11 cities. It raised more than $62,000 for charity. The Oregon Big Beat will be a fun-filled day of percussion, with clinics, performances, product give-aways, raffles, celebrity drummers, and a World's Fastest Drummer contest. This will also be the largest mass-drumming performance ever attempted. Here's your chance to participate in this world record event. The highlight of the day will be at 2:45 Pacific Time, when all of the drummers in each of the 15 cities play the same groove in unison. This feat will be achieved through a video internet connection, with the director in each city following the conductor in Seattle. | ||

The Oregon Big Beat will bring together hundreds of drummers, including drum set, drum corps, orchestral, African, Latin, Brazilian, Taiko...from beginners to teachers to gigging pros, all for one great cause....our school's music programs! As a grand finale to our event, the Oregon Big Beat will feature the world premier of Oregon Music Hall of Fame Inductee, Bobby Torres' original percussion piece entitled Convergence II, featuring many of Portland's professional drummers. Check out some of the press & videos below from last year's Big Beat event at other stores across the country to see what a fun-filled opportunity this can be. Our event will have a uniquely Oregon flavor as we partner with the Oregon Food Bank, in addition to Mr. Holland's Opus, and bring out our drums and drummers in all shapes and sizes! We will be updating this general information with specifics as we move forward. Right now, we are looking for volunteers and board members who want to be a part of this effort! We want to be a part of this fun annual event, that drummers look forward to, while helping to generate money for our school's music programs. We have been guaranteed by the Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation that money raised at our local Oregon Big Beat event will stay in our community and be given to a local school or schools. We need volunteers in the following areas: Corporate sponsorship and fundraising, Marketing, Registration, Artist Liaison, Show Production (load-in, set-up, stage hand), Logo (T-shirt and merch sales), Tech (sound, video), and Student Reps. What is Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation? Founded in 1996, MHOF donates new and refurbished musical instruments to underserved schools, community music programs and individual students nationwide, in an effort to give youngsters the many benefits of music education, help them to be better students and inspire creativity and expression through playing music. Since its inception, MHOF programs have benefited more than 500,000 students and have enabled hundreds of dedicated teachers to provide a better learning experience in school.
