Jim Haler, Product Specialist for Yamaha Drums was born in Kansas City, MO. He began playing drums at age ten, studied private lessons from the age of 12. Jim joined the musician's union and began playing professionally at age 16, playing six nights a week in cover bands, outdoor theater, and casuals. He enlisted in the Navy at 18 and after attending the Navy School of Music in Norfolk, VA, was stationed in San Francisco with the Navy Band, touring across the country performing a wide range of music from rock, big band, and symphonic percussion. After his honorable discharge, Jim pursued his rock star dreams performing in a number of original bands in the San Francisco Bay Area. Jim also played often as a sideman for artists coming through the city and doing recording sessions. Jim began working in music retail in 1992 and joined Yamaha as Product Manager for Drums in 2003. Jim has worked in marketing, sales, customer and artist support, and product development where he has had a hand in developing new instruments, with several of his ideas making it to market. Jim has become the "go to" for Yamaha Drum history and is a subject matter expert in all things Yamaha Drums.
